Mari Ørstavik

DIRECTOR AND SCREENWRITER

Mari is a Norwegian filmmaker holding a BA in film directing, and an AA in acting. Her short film work has traveled the film festival circuit internationally, among them her thesis film QUEEN, which after its completion in june 2021 has  traveled festivals internationally and won multiple awards. 

Mari is a writer and director for the teen TV show "VGS" which premiered on Norway's national channel NRK in November 2022. The show became hugely popular and was top of the list of the most popular shows on NRK for weeks following its release. 

 

In 2022 Mari also directed the short film "Moon Sisters", through the program for young female directors at Mediefabrikken, as well as 2 music videos for American artist Faith Richards.

Mari has participated in multiple talent development programs, including Viken Langstrakt and CineSud's Director's Village through Screen Talent Europe. 

She is currently in post-production with her short film "Moon Brothers", as well as working on the upcoming season of "VGS" and developing new long format concepts.

 

As a director Mari thrives in the collaborative effort that is creating, and strives to tell stories of the people who are often overlooked. Her background in acting gives her a unique insight to the work of bringing stories to life in collaboration with her actors. ​
