Mari Ørstavik is a Norwegian director working across television and film. She has directed and written for six seasons of the BBC Studios Nordic produced series VGS for NRK, and was part of the writers’ room for Season 3 of the Netflix series Home for Christmas, which reached Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English Series).

Her work is rooted in character-driven storytelling, with a focus on performance, tone and emotional precision. While her background spans drama and comedy, her recent work has increasingly moved toward psychologically driven, genre-influenced narratives.

Mari began her career as an actor, an experience that continues to inform her approach to directing and her collaboration with performers.

She is currently developing her debut feature film with idea-development funding from the Norwegian Film Institute.
